now the fun begins because it’s a mac – any normal PC you could probably run down grab the part and do it yourself… Macs just don’t allow you to do that do they?

Bugga bugga bugga – have been using disk repair, utilities and every lay mans tool to discover the hard drive, but it is not recognized, that little baby has gone!

Scott Scott Scott, Harris Technology have dropped the price on external dual bus portable hard drives. You need to get yourself a couple of these and make sure you have Time Machine running exactly for this reason. Have you booted from your leopard Boot disk? Next best thing take it into your apple guy and get it repaired under warranty. Happens to the best of us. cheers, Craig
Craig, all backed up on an external h.d – no worries there. Not using time machine, just a HD dump, but effective. Off to APple guy sometime this week for repairs.

well, that explains it…I am using the cheapskate option (free). Must have limited features.
see now if it had have been a Toshie, or some other ‘PC’ based laptop I’m sure I could have got you a new harddrive and swapped it for you in 10 minutes, reloaded windows in about 60 and had you ready to go maybe 30 minutes after that.
Easily for under $200 (outside of warranty).
Wondering how long the apple will take? This has always been the problem with the 1 or 2 macs we have at work.
2 days and $250! Just goes to prove that the nasty comparisons between MAc and PC are not all true!
