I was at a meeting of people concerned for the environment last week and the guest speaker (Ian Barnes from Murdoch Uni) recommended a novel by Cormick McCarthy called The Road. He said it was the scariest most apocalyptic view of a future in a world destroyed by us and our abuse of the planet…we are lead to presume.
It is dark, depressing yet captivating. I almost read it in a single sitting…or two or three. It was written in greys and blacks…as in, every description in the book used these colours to desribe it.

The Road is a 2006 novel by American writer Cormac McCarthy. It is a post-apocalyptic tale describing a journey taken by a father and his young son over a period of several months across a landscape blasted years before by an unnamed cataclysm which destroyed civilization and most life on earth.
