The Road

I was at a meeting of people concerned for the environment last week and the guest speaker (Ian Barnes from Murdoch Uni) recommended a novel by Cormick McCarthy called The Road. He said it was the scariest most apocalyptic view of a future in a world destroyed by us and our abuse of the planet…we are lead to presume.
It is dark, depressing yet captivating. I almost read it in a single sitting…or two or three. It was written in greys and blacks…as in, every description in the book used these colours to desribe it.

A Wikki comment –
The Road is a 2006 novel by American writer Cormac McCarthy. It is a post-apocalyptic tale describing a journey taken by a father and his young son over a period of several months across a landscape blasted years before by an unnamed cataclysm which destroyed civilization and most life on earth. The novel was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the 2006 James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction
