How Does He Sleep at Night?

“But the God I know is not one that — the God I know is one that promotes peace and freedom. But I get great sustenance from my personal relationship. That doesn’t make me think I’m a better person than you are, by the way.”

  1. God as a ‘promoter’?

That’s a new one – not sure how ‘God the Promoter” fits in with the other three of the trilogy, er, trinity.

George Bush is a walking, talking sales agent for atheism.

  2. hey don’t insult atheists!

seriously, as you know his ‘brand’ of christianity is common to civil religion in America and very widespread in the world, including in Oz. It certainly seems to bear little resemblance to the life and teachings of the Jesus of the gospels, and I am deeply convicted about my lack of grace towards those who hold to such a parody of the gospel (not least because I was very much in that camp myself for many years and have become something of a ‘reformed smoker’ since then).

For me, Bush’s main problem is his seemingly total lack of any self-doubt or capacity for complex reasoning, no matter what his stated religious faith. Oh yeah, and all those nukes.

Give me Josiah Bartlett in the White House anyday!

    in Peace

  3. Bartlett for President!

Yup I’d love to see a leader in that country capable of deep thought.
